Note that this story is by Mr Oh, my BM tuition teacher who motivated us a lot via this short story. I'm here to narrate it to share it to everyone! The beauty of this story!
Lily is a poor and single mother, she got a son named Ash aged 6 years old. Her husband deceased when Ash was still a baby. Her husband entrusted Lily a task that is to give Ash the piano that her husband used to play. It is an old antique piano but it is still playable. Every morning when Ash wake up, he will play the piano that was given by his deceased father.
Ting Ting Ting Ting Ting Ting Ting~~~~ Ting Ting Ting Ting Ting Ting Ting~~~
He uses his tiny finger and presses the key one by one. However, Ash only know how to play a song and no one taught him before that is "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star". Lily always wondered who taught him how to play this song although it is a simple song but she is still in the midst of finding the answer.
One morning, while Lily was squeezing her way through the busy crowd in the market, holding a basket filled with some vegetables, she saw a poster pasted on the wall nearby.
"World Famous Pianist, Federesky is coming to town for a performance in 20th October!"Ticket price: $120, front seat!$60, middle seat!$30, normal seat!
Lily saw that poster and immediately she thought of his son, Ash. There is around a month left before showtime. "I will bring my child to see this performance and I want him to sit on the front row seat so that no one can block his view," she thought in her heart and left the market with her grocery basket.
Lily worked hard day and night and even taking extra jobs to get enough money before the performance. Her income was little but she preserved and worked to stack up the money up to $240. She got bullied, scolded and shouted by the people many times but she stood up again and work. In the end, her hard work payed off and she got 2 ticket for Federesky's performance front row seat.
During the night of the performance, Lily and Ash sat down quietly on their front row seat while the stage was still closed by the red curtains. The auditorium was filled with people and most of them are rich people from the village. It was full with people eagerly waiting for the main character to come out. Suddenly, the lights went off and the curtains opened widely, exposing a grand, shiny piano shined by the spotlight. Applause can be heard and the spotlight was dimmed and darkness filled the auditorium again.
Lily was excited and turned to look at Ash, but to her horror, Ash was not in his seat and the spotlight shined at the piano again. As the spotlight was lighted, everyone gasped. Ash was sitting on the chair trying to play the piano. The audience was unhappily talking to each other and some was shouting at Ash saying that he ruined their village's reputation. Some even insulted Lily for not taking care of her child properly. The anger of the audience made Lily felt shy and trying to go up the stage to bring Ash down the stage. However, she was too late.
The main character of the performance slowly step out of the back stage and heading towards the piano. Ash began to move his playful fingers and pressed the key one by one, playing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star again. The audience became more furious and started their insults on the innocent child and booing him. The organizer of the event starting to become shy and ask two big bouncers to catch the boy and bring him off stage so that Federesky can perform his play.
"Who's child is this? Such humiliation and disgraceful," said the organizer with a harsh tone. "Bring down that child from the piano!"
The bouncers responded to the organizer's order and went up the stage with haste. Federesky saw the bouncer and stopped them.
"Leave the boy alone," Federesky said while his hand halted the movement of the bouncers.
"But sir, if the boy stayed there, you can't perform your performance," said one of the bouncers.
"It's ok, leave the boy alone," Federesky replied and the bouncers walked down from the stage.
Ash was still pressing the keys happily and played the one and only song he knew, over and over again. The angry audience kept giving the child a piece of their mind but Federesky approached Ash and touched his shoulder. Federesky whispered to Ash.
"Boy... Keep playing, don't stop," Federesky said.
Ash played his song happily on the treble clef of the piano pressing key by key. Federesky smiled and sit beside him, Federesky played the bass clef instead. The angry and unsatisfied feeling of the audience faded away and the auditorium became quiet and only the melody was heard. Both of them played the piano like children, attempting to synchronizes the tune to make a perfect melody. When Federesky played faster, Ash will play even faster. It's like both of them were challenging each other on a duel. The melody of Twinkle Twinkle Star, awaken everyone in the auditorium, both Federesky and Ash had made the song the most beautiful song that night.
Once they finished, both of them got off their seat and Ash stood on the chair and both of them bow as the audience applause with excitement and they were inspired by the performance that night.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In a nutshell, have you ever imagine? What will happened to Ash if he stopped playing? No one will ever inspire his song and everyone will hate Ash as the people thought it was humiliating. Same goes for us in the present. If we stop when we are in a middle of something, will we succeed? Will we achieve our dreams and hopes? If we stop, don't ever think of becoming rich, don't ever dream to become a doctor or engineer, don't even hope to be successful in life.
SPM takers, in this short 1 month time, keep in mind Federesky's word, "keep playing, don't stop." Keep studying hard and don't stop! If you are to discipline yourself and study hard for the incoming exam, there is no doubt that a straight A's is in your hand. If you thought of giving up and don't want to study anymore, do you think you will be the one shouting for joy during March next year? Absolutely not! You will not be able to apply for a good scholarship, you will not be able to get a good college nor to mention you will get a good job in life. Don't give up, stood up straight, it is not too late, open up your books and start. Keep studying and don't stop!
Last and not least, in a game, you will get a game over, your score is 300,000 points, is it something good to be brag about it? In SPM, if you strive hard, you might get RM300,000 scholarship! 300,000 points and RM300,000, which is more better in future? Think about it, its your judgment.
It is not just SPM takers but it is also for everyone no matter who or where you are.
